Steve Saxty Releases Limited Edition Ford Design Book

Automotive author Steve Saxty has released a new, limited-edition version of his book, The Cars You Always Promised Yourself, charting the evolution of Ford of Europe’s iconic cars from the 1970s to the 1990s. This expanded edition, limited to just 500 signed copies, delves into Ford’s most celebrated models, such as the Capri, Sierra RS Cosworth, and Puma, while also revealing concept cars that never made it to the showroom.

The original edition, released in 2019, sold out quickly, leaving hundreds of Ford enthusiasts on a waiting list. In response to the high demand, Saxty has launched this new version with additional content, a larger format, and a soft-feel cover. At 336 pages, the book features exclusive images, insights from Ford’s original designers, and custom-commissioned illustrations of cars such as Henry Ford’s personal RS2000. Each copy also includes a separate booklet titled RS Icons, with the complete package priced at £89.95, available now via Saxty’s website.

Speaking about the updated edition, Saxty said, “We had hundreds of requests to reproduce the original, but instead of just reprinting it, I wanted to create something more. I envisioned a ‘restomod’ version of the book – larger with extra content and improved to reflect the fascinating history inside.”

The new edition offers a comprehensive look at Ford’s most sought-after coupes, tracking their journey from initial sketches to the final production models. Saxty had full access to Ford’s archives and spent countless hours interviewing the designers, engineers, and managers behind these vehicles, bringing to light behind-the-scenes stories of cars that have left an indelible mark on automotive culture.

In addition to beloved models like the Capri and RS Cosworth, The Cars You Always Promised Yourself reveals Ford’s lesser-known prototypes and concepts that never made it to production. With a mix of photographs, design sketches, and detailed commentary, the book provides a captivating glimpse into the world of car design and development. The stories of the vehicles that didn’t reach the roads offer fascinating insight into the design process and the decisions that shaped Ford’s legacy.

Saxty’s reputation as a respected author in the automotive world continues to grow. His first book established him as a key voice in the industry, particularly in car design, and his latest release strengthens that position. His detailed work on Ford’s designs, as well as his recently acclaimed BMW Behind The Scenes set, highlights his ability to uncover untold stories and share them with car enthusiasts worldwide.

With half of the 500-copy run already sold due to preorders, the remaining copies of The Cars You Always Promised Yourself are now available just in time for the festive season, complete with free UK postage and packaging. Enthusiasts can order the limited-edition book, priced at £89.95, directly from www.stevesaxty.com.
