Foxconn, the world’s largest technology manufacturer, has unveiled two new reference electric vehicles at its fifth annual Hon Hai Tech Day (HHTD), further diversifying its automotive offerings. The newly introduced models are the MODEL D, a lifestyle multipurpose utility vehicle, and the MODEL U, a midi-sized electric bus. These designs showcase Foxconn’s commitment to advancing electric mobility solutions.
During the event, Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, Foxconn’s publicly listed subsidiary responsible for these reference designs, also presented the first variant of the MODEL C aimed at automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) targeting the North American market. Young Liu, Chairman of Hon Hai Technology Group, remarked, “The latest models join a terrific line-up of EVs displaying our range and maturity in automotive development. The EVs going to market with our B2B customers are standing up to real tests in automotive endurance, safety, and reliability.”
The MODEL D is designed as a Lifestyle Multipurpose Utility Vehicle (LMUV), blending the advantages of both SUV and MPV segments. Spanning 5.2 meters in length with a wheelbase of 3.2 meters, the MODEL D provides ample space for passengers. It features a pneumatic suspension system that enhances driving stability, with the ability to adjust the vehicle’s height by 15 mm to 25 mm. Additionally, the vehicle’s aerodynamic design incorporates S-ducts and air curtains, achieving an impressive drag coefficient of 0.23. The MODEL D’s design has been developed in collaboration with the esteemed Italian design house Pininfarina SpA, adding a touch of elegance to the family of electric vehicles.
On the other hand, the MODEL U serves as a universal and intelligent midi-sized electric bus. Continuing the innovative design ethos of Foxconn’s award-winning MODEL T full-sized electric bus, launched in 2021, the MODEL U is tailored for narrow urban lanes and remote areas. Its clean and simple exterior, complemented by large windows, promotes flexibility and multi-functionality. The interior can be configured based on specific needs, and its advanced electronic control and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) ensure a safer and more comfortable driving experience. The bus’s structure and aerodynamic design are optimised to extend its operational range.
Additionally, the North American variant of the MODEL C was unveiled at HHTD, created in collaboration with American partners and set to enter mass production by the end of 2025. Retaining a sleek and modern family-style design, the MODEL C features expanded S-ducts, a new steering wheel design, and an updated user interface (UI).
First introduced in 2021, the MODEL C has quickly gained popularity, becoming one of Taiwan’s best-selling passenger electric vehicles. It recently made history as the first electric vehicle to compete in the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR), Southeast Asia’s largest motorsport event, completing a challenging 2,100 km course.
Foxconn’s Contract Design and Manufacturing Service (CDMS) business model allows automotive OEM customers to select their preferred reference designs for customisation.
