Evolito Limited, a leader in axial-flux electric motor technology for aerospace, has announced the appointment of Marc Holme as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This strategic move comes as the company gears up for significant expansion and a series of test flights later this year.
Holme, who brings over two decades of experience in the aviation industry, joins Evolito from Collins Aerospace, where he served as Senior Director of Engineering. His extensive background includes leading aircraft system electrification programs for major projects such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787. At Evolito, Holme will oversee the development and future strategy of the company’s advanced electric propulsion systems.
Expressing his enthusiasm about the new role, Holme commented, “I’m thrilled to join Evolito and contribute to advancing sustainable aviation through electrification. Evolito’s cutting-edge electric motor technology, originally designed for the automotive sector, is being tailored for aerospace applications where weight, efficiency, and safety are paramount. With its superior motor control electronics and battery technologies, Evolito is well-positioned to drive scalable and sustainable electric aviation.”
Evolito’s announcement of Holme’s appointment follows a landmark year for the company. In December 2023, Evolito received Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the UK Civil Aviation Authority, marking a significant milestone for its electric propulsion systems. The company is collaborating with various Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to develop propulsion solutions for eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft, Urban Air Mobility, and fixed-wing applications. Evolito anticipates a series of customer test flights later this year as part of its growth strategy.
Dr. Chris Harris, CEO and co-founder of Evolito, expressed his excitement about the new addition to the team. “We are delighted to welcome Marc to the Evolito family. Our success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our talented team, who share a passion for sustainable mobility. The electrification of flight represents one of the most thrilling opportunities in today’s market. With our innovative technology and capacity for scaling, Evolito is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for electric aviation.”
Since its founding in July 2021, Evolito has experienced rapid growth, expanding its team from 15 to over 200 employees. The company was recently recognised in the 2023 Best Companies100 Best Places to Work, securing second place in four categories. In July 2022, Evolito integrated Electroflight batteries into its operations, enhancing its ability to deliver comprehensive propulsion solutions optimised for future aircraft.
Evolito is also collaborating with Cranfield Aerospace Solutions on the Fresson project, which aims to demonstrate hydrogen-powered aircraft technologies. This partnership highlights Evolito’s commitment to advancing both electric and hydrogen propulsion systems.
