Hyundai Motor Company has officially unveiled the IONIQ 9, a groundbreaking three-row electric SUV that promises to redefine the future of electric vehicles (EVs). The highly anticipated launch took place at the iconic Goldstein House in Los Angeles, a fitting venue for an event showcasing the fusion of modern design and innovative EV technology.
During the event, José Muñoz, President and Global Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Company, delivered a keynote speech outlining the company’s commitment to advancing electrification. The IONIQ 9 is a bold new offering for customers seeking a spacious electric SUV with the capacity to seat up to seven people. Hyundai promises the vehicle delivers a harmonious blend of personal comfort and a sense of togetherness, under the slogan “Built to Belong.”
Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, described the IONIQ 9 as a symbol of Hyundai’s confidence in the electric future. “IONIQ 9 is based on our acclaimed Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and provides outstanding interior space, delivering unique value while reinforcing Hyundai’s leadership in the global EV market,” he said.
The interior of the IONIQ 9 is designed to offer an unparalleled experience, with ample space in the second and third rows. The vehicle features Relaxation Seats that fully recline, providing ultimate comfort during long journeys or while charging the car. The innovative Universal Island 2.0 console slides up to 190mm to enhance storage and accessibility.
On the exterior, the IONIQ 9 showcases Hyundai’s new “Aerosthetic” design, combining aerodynamic efficiency with sleek, futuristic styling. The SUV features a smooth roofline and a low drag coefficient, contributing to enhanced performance and energy efficiency. Notably, the IONIQ 9 is the first Hyundai vehicle to eliminate the roof antenna, opting instead for a more minimalistic design that integrates the antenna functions into the vehicle’s body.
Powering the IONIQ 9 is a high-voltage, 110.3 kWh battery that offers a range of up to 620 kilometres, with fast-charging capabilities that allow the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes. The vehicle’s innovative platform supports both 400V and 800V charging, making it more convenient for drivers to adopt electric technology.
Hyundai has also focused on practical, future-oriented features. The IONIQ 9 introduces a range of smart technologies, including an AI-enabled voice recognition system and a UV-C sterilizer that disinfects small items like phones and wallets. Additionally, the SUV’s climate system offers a rear-independent function, perfect for leisure activities such as car camping.
The IONIQ 9 comes equipped with Hyundai’s latest safety features, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) aimed at preventing accidents and enhancing driving comfort. The SUV’s body structure is reinforced for maximum battery safety, ensuring structural integrity even in the event of a collision.
Set to go on sale in Korea and the United States in 2025, the IONIQ 9 will be available in 16 exterior colours, with an array of trim options for a fully customizable experience. With its advanced technology, exceptional design, and sustainable performance, the IONIQ 9 is poised to lead the way in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
