Global technology leader Infosys has announced a long-term strategic collaboration with Lufthansa Group (LHG) and Lufthansa Systems GmbH (LSY) to boost digital innovation within the aviation industry. The partnership, which aims to accelerate the digital transformation of LHG’s operations, will focus on developing sustainable, AI-driven solutions to enhance safety, efficiency, and customer experience.

As part of the agreement, a dedicated Global Capability Center (GCC) will be established in Bengaluru, India. The center will enhance Lufthansa Systems’ software and product development and increase support for the external airline market customers. Leveraging Infosys’s AI-first offering, Infosys Topaz, the center will work on developing future-ready aviation IT products and data-driven solutions to help LHG manage volatile demand while improving operational processes.

Thomas Rückert, CIO of Lufthansa Group, highlighted the importance of the collaboration, stating, “The aviation industry faces numerous challenges, from fluctuating fuel prices and operational complexities to geopolitical uncertainties. By working with Infosys, we aim to address these challenges and optimise operations, leading to more efficient air travel and improved passenger experiences.”

The collaboration will see Infosys apply its expertise in AI and data analytics to support critical functions such as flight navigation, network design, and aircraft operations. The integration of AI technologies will allow Lufthansa to optimise its operations and deliver better services to its customers. The partnership aims to improve efficiency, productivity, and the stability of operational processes, thereby supporting sustainable growth in a rapidly evolving aviation landscape.

Thomas Wittmann, CEO of Lufthansa Systems, also praised the partnership, saying, “Our modular approach to solutions allows us to offer tailored services to each airline. This collaboration with Infosys combines our deep aviation expertise with their technology prowess, enabling us to deliver innovative solutions more quickly and at scale. This is a major step towards driving digital innovation in the aviation sector.”

Infosys’s commitment to innovation in the aviation sector is reflected in its work with industry leaders, including global airlines and aerospace manufacturers. The company’s industry-specific offerings, such as Infosys Cobalt Airline Cloud, are designed to optimise airline operations and enhance passenger experiences, all while contributing to the industry’s sustainability goals.

Ashiss Kumar Dash, EVP & Global Head of Services, Utilities, and Sustainability at Infosys, added, “This collaboration demonstrates the confidence that industry leaders have in Infosys’ cutting-edge technologies. By harnessing our AI capabilities and industry cloud solutions, we are enabling Lufthansa Group to transform its operations and take air travel into a new, more efficient and sustainable era.”

Infosys has a strong track record of delivering innovative technology solutions across various industries. This partnership with Lufthansa Systems and Lufthansa Group marks the next step in its commitment to revolutionising air travel, improving efficiency, and creating value for both passengers and operators alike.
