ShipStation, a leading provider of cloud-based shipping solutions, has announced the integration of its ShipEngine technology into a newly branded ShipStation API. The move aims to create a more unified and scalable shipping solution for businesses, developers, and logistics teams worldwide.
ShipEngine, known for its developer-friendly shipping API, has powered ecommerce merchants and logistics platforms since 2017. By consolidating ShipEngine into ShipStation API, ShipStation’s parent company Auctane is positioning itself as a major force in shipping technology. The rebranded API will be enhanced over the coming months, offering businesses greater functionality, improved developer tools, and a more streamlined user experience.
The transition marks a significant investment in ShipStation’s API strategy as the company continues its global expansion. With more than 1 million users across 250 countries, ShipStation provides access to over 200 carrier integrations, including local, regional, and international shipping services. The platform currently facilitates the movement of more than $80 billion in gross merchandise value each year.
Kelly Vincent, Chief Product Officer at Auctane, said the changes will provide businesses with a more efficient shipping process.
“ShipStation has helped hundreds of thousands of businesses scale and deliver exceptional customer experiences. With ShipStation API, we are taking our commitment to innovation even further,” she said.
“By consolidating our API offerings, we are giving users access to more tools, greater flexibility, and a seamless shipping experience that will support their growth.”
The process of merging ShipEngine into ShipStation API will begin immediately, with further development planned over the summer of 2025. The aim is to integrate the most advanced capabilities of ShipEngine into ShipStation’s existing platform, creating a single, comprehensive shipping solution.
ShipStation API is expected to benefit a wide range of businesses, from ecommerce retailers to enterprise logistics teams. By simplifying the way companies integrate shipping services into their operations, the API aims to enhance efficiency and reduce costs for businesses of all sizes.
Auctane, which owns both ShipStation and ShipEngine, says the move reflects the growing demand for more integrated shipping technology. With online retail and global trade continuing to expand, businesses are increasingly reliant on efficient shipping solutions to meet customer expectations.
The transition to ShipStation API is part of a broader strategy to accelerate innovation in the shipping sector. Auctane believes that by unifying its technology under a single brand, it can provide businesses with a more powerful and flexible shipping infrastructure.
