Textron Aviation has unveiled the future of flight with its latest Cessna Citation lineup, introducing the next generation of light jets: the Cessna Citation M2 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3, and CJ4 Gen3. The announcement, made on the eve of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Convention in Las Vegas, highlights the incorporation of cutting-edge technology, including Garmin’s revolutionary Emergency Autoland system in all three models.

The CJ4 Gen3, in particular, boasts the new Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics, providing pilots with enhanced control and intuitive operation. The aircraft is currently under development and is expected to enter service in 2026, with the M2 Gen3 and CJ3 Gen3 to follow in 2027.

Ron Draper, president and CEO of Textron Aviation, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “Today we unveiled the future of flight and the next generation of Cessna Citation light jets — the M2 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3 and CJ4 Gen3 — to carry on the iconic legacy of the trusted Citation brand while introducing cutting-edge advancements and technology.” The new aircraft promise to elevate the flying experience for pilots and passengers alike.

At the NBAA Convention, attendees will have the opportunity to view a mockup of the CJ3 Gen3 as well as the cockpit mockup of the CJ4 Gen3, offering a first-hand look at the advancements in design and technology.

The introduction of the Garmin Emergency Autoland system marks a significant leap in aviation safety, providing an automated response in the event of pilot incapacitation. Draper highlighted the importance of this technology, stating, “As the world’s first certified system of its kind, Autoland not only advances automated flight capabilities but also enhances peace of mind for both passengers and pilots.” Each of the new aircraft will also feature integrated Garmin Autothrottles for improved precision throughout the flight.

In addition to safety enhancements, the CJ4 Gen3 is expected to set a new standard for pilot experience. The new avionics suite includes interactive multi-touch displays, a new procedure selector for intuitive adjustments, and larger secondary display units that allow for easier viewing. These improvements aim to streamline operations and keep pilots ahead in the cockpit.

The CJ4 Gen3 also aims to deliver a luxurious experience, with features designed to meet the needs of owners and operators. Among the enhancements are lithium-ion batteries for improved reliability, upgraded cabin acoustics for a quieter flight experience, and improved flight deck lighting for better visibility.

Textron Aviation’s new aircraft are designed not only for superior performance but also for cost-effectiveness, with the CJ4 Gen3 boasting nearly 10% lower operating costs compared to its competitors. With class-leading range and payload capabilities, the new Citation jets are set to redefine expectations in the light business jet sector.

As Textron Aviation continues to innovate, the company reaffirms its commitment to providing advanced, reliable, and efficient aircraft to meet the evolving needs of the aviation industry, ensuring that the Cessna Citation brand remains at the forefront of luxury and performance.
