WeRide Inc., a global leader in autonomous driving technology, has launched its cutting-edge autonomous delivery vehicle, the Robovan W5. The vehicle, powered by WeRide’s self-developed Level 4 autonomous technology, is designed to operate around the clock, in all weather conditions, offering cost-effective, unmanned solutions for urban logistics and point-to-point deliveries.

The Robovan W5, designed for urban open roads, builds upon WeRide’s extensive experience in autonomous driving. With almost 1,900 days of autonomous operations and nearly 40 million kilometres driven on public roads, the vehicle is equipped with a state-of-the-art sensor kit capable of providing 360-degree perception. This system can detect pedestrians, other vehicles, traffic lights, and road users, ensuring safe operations in a variety of traffic situations, day or night.

WeRide says the Robovan W5 is tailored for high-frequency urban logistics, boasting the largest cargo capacity in its class at 5.5 cubic metres. It can carry up to 1,000 kilograms and has an impressive operating range of up to 220 kilometres. The vehicle’s intelligent path optimization system allows it to navigate the complexities of urban traffic, dynamically adjusting routes in real-time to avoid congestion, ensuring more efficient deliveries.

The Robovan W5 is also designed with flexibility in mind, offering modular cargo box stacking to accommodate different delivery scenarios. Additionally, the vehicle supports multi-vehicle platooning, which enables a single operator to manage multiple units at once, facilitating scalable, standardised deliveries.

Electric-powered, the Robovan W5 promises lower operational costs while contributing to greener transportation. Its safety features are top-notch, including redundant drive-by-wire chassis, emergency braking, collision warning, and intelligent cloud control for real-time monitoring and management. The vehicle also supports remote over-the-air (OTA) updates, ensuring its systems remain up-to-date and optimised.

In addition to its technical capabilities, the Robovan W5 is supported by a comprehensive suite of services. These include cloud-based scheduling, task optimisation, real-time tracking, and data analytics. WeRide offers 24/7 customer support, on-site training, and tailored solutions, including maintenance and vehicle replacement in case of quality issues.

“We’re excited to introduce the Robovan W5, a game-changing step in autonomous logistics. Our platform, WeRide One, enables us to offer solutions for a wide range of urban transportation needs, from passenger robots to vehicles cleaning the streets, and now, efficient, autonomous delivery,” said Dr Tony Han, Founder and CEO of WeRide. “With the Robovan W5, we are demonstrating the practical applications of our proven autonomous driving technology in urban logistics, providing businesses with a reliable, cost-effective solution.”

The Robovan W5 further solidifies WeRide’s position as a leader in autonomous technology, catering to the rapidly growing demand for smart urban logistics solutions. As autonomous vehicles become increasingly integrated into urban environments, WeRide continues to innovate, reshaping the future of transportation.
