Chinese automaker Geely has unveiled its latest global electric SUV model, the Geely EX5, at the prestigious 2024 Automechanika Frankfurt. With a focus on appealing to diverse international markets, the EX5 represents Geely’s ambition to solidify its place as a global leader in electric vehicles (EVs). This launch underscores the company’s continued commitment to innovation and advanced technology in the electric vehicle sector.

Speaking at the event, Victor Yang, Senior Vice President of Geely Holding Group, said, “The EX5 was created to become a class-leading player in the most competitive segment. With more space, better driving dynamics, and an enhanced ride experience, we are confident that the EX5 will set new standards in the industry.”

Advanced Technology and Innovation at its Core

The EX5 is built on Geely’s GEA architecture, a platform designed to maximise spatial efficiency and structural integrity. This platform supports multi-energy layouts, allowing flexibility for different powertrains while ensuring superior energy efficiency and driving dynamics. The architecture forms the foundation of the EX5’s claim as a world-class electric vehicle, offering drivers a smooth and responsive experience.

The vehicle boasts a sleek and aerodynamic exterior, with a drag coefficient of 0.269, setting it apart from competitors in terms of efficiency. Modern design elements include sophisticated LED taillights and a technological front grille, all contributing to a bold and dynamic aesthetic. Inside, the EX5 provides a luxurious yet minimalist interior, enhanced by high-quality materials and flexible seating arrangements. A key feature is the “Half More” storage concept, offering 50% more storage capacity compared to industry standards.

Geely has also prioritised in-car technology, equipping the EX5 with the FLYME Auto system and FLYME SOUND, providing seamless connectivity and a premium audio experience. These features ensure that drivers and passengers alike will enjoy a comfortable and high-tech driving environment.

A New Standard in Battery and Electric Drive Technology

At the heart of the EX5’s impressive performance is its cutting-edge Short Blade Battery, designed to provide maximum safety and durability. The battery has undergone rigorous testing under extreme conditions, ensuring reliability across different environments. Coupled with the 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive, the EX5 delivers unparalleled performance, marking it as a formidable contender in the competitive electric SUV market.

Geely believes that these innovations, alongside the EX5’s advanced powertrain, will set new benchmarks for electric vehicle safety and efficiency.

Global Ambitions for the EX5

The launch of the EX5 is part of Geely’s broader strategy to expand its presence in international markets and strengthen its position as a global leader in new energy vehicles (NEVs). Developed with both left- and right-hand drive options, the EX5 has been carefully designed to meet the regulatory requirements of 89 countries, making it a truly global model.

Geely’s global design teams in Gothenburg, Shanghai, Coventry, and Milan have contributed to the refinement of the EX5, ensuring it meets the diverse needs and preferences of international consumers.

The EX5 will soon be introduced to key markets, including Norway, Australia, Thailand, and Indonesia, as part of Geely’s efforts to grow its international footprint.

Conclusion

Geely’s unveiling of the EX5 at Automechanika Frankfurt signals a significant step in the company’s quest to lead the global electric vehicle market. With cutting-edge technology, innovative design, and a focus on both performance and sustainability, the EX5 demonstrates Geely’s commitment to driving the future of mobility. As the company looks to expand into new markets, the EX5 is poised to play a pivotal role in its global strategy, offering consumers around the world a glimpse into the next generation of electric SUVs.
