Global IoT solutions provider Quectel Wireless Solutions has launched the SC682A, a new multi-mode smart module equipped with LTE Cat 4, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, at Electronica 2024 in Munich. Aimed at enhancing industrial and consumer IoT applications, the SC682A is designed to provide high-performance connectivity and multimedia capabilities, alongside a guaranteed lifecycle extending to at least 2030.
The module, which runs on an Android 13–18 operating system, offers versatile memory configurations, allowing for efficient operation across a broad range of smart device applications. Norbert Muhrer, President and CSO of Quectel, highlighted the module’s adaptability and longevity: “We’re proud to unveil the Quectel SC682A smart LTE module at this year’s Electronica event. This powerful new module combines flexible memory configurations with the convenience of Android OS built-in, providing connectivity solutions for a wide range of smart use cases.”
The SC682A’s compatibility with a range of interfaces, including those for cameras, touch panels, microphones, and speakers, broadens its application across diverse IoT devices such as smart point-of-sale (POS) systems, home gateways, robots, wearables, vending machines, safety devices, and more. With its high data rate capabilities – 150 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink via LTE Cat 4 – the module is also suitable for data-heavy applications such as video streaming and in-vehicle entertainment.
To enhance positioning accuracy, the SC682A includes a dual-band GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver capable of supporting multiple constellations, which ensures precise location tracking. Its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1 functionalities further support flexible connectivity options across various applications, from consumer devices to industrial equipment.
Designed with resilience in mind, the SC682A operates across a wide temperature range from -35°C to 75°C and is fully RoHS and REACH compliant, underscoring Quectel’s commitment to sustainable and safe design practices. Compact in form, with dimensions of 43.0mm x 44.0mm x 2.85mm, the module offers flexibility for device designers working within space constraints.
Quectel also offers a variety of antenna options tailored to support the SC682A, including the YEMN017AA and YEMN016AA combo antennas and four-port options YEMN400J1AH and YEMN401J1AH. For embedded FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) antennas, Quectel provides the YF0022DA for LTE, YFGA003AA for GNSS, and YF0027AA for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Security remains a priority in Quectel’s IoT modules, with the SC682A developed with robust cybersecurity measures. Partnering with independent third-party testing organisations, Quectel has incorporated SBOM (Software Bill of Materials) and VEX (Vulnerability Exploitability eXchange) files, alongside thorough binary firmware analysis, throughout the software development lifecycle. The SC682A will also be certified under the EU RED DA cybersecurity regulation, providing customers with compliant security assurances.
Quectel is showcasing its full range of IoT solutions, including the SC682A, at Electronica 2024 in Munich. Interested parties can meet with Quectel representatives at the event to learn more about this latest addition to their lineup.
