Union Industries Enhances Crown Lift Trucks’ Operations with Ramdoor

Union Industries, the UK’s leading manufacturer of bespoke industrial doors, has successfully assisted Crown Lift Trucks in overcoming significant operational challenges at its Warrington facility. The installation of Union Industries’ cutting-edge high-speed Ramdoor has addressed key issues related to temperature control, traffic segregation, and overall operational efficiency.

Crown Lift Trucks, a renowned name in the forklift and material handling industry, faced several obstacles at its site, primarily the need to separate two adjoining units with differing temperature requirements. Additionally, the facility needed a solution that would permit the movement of high-mast forklift trucks through a large opening, which added to the complexity of the installation.

To meet these requirements, Union Industries designed a bespoke solution tailored to the building’s unique configuration. This ensured that the required opening height was achieved without compromising functionality. The installation also considered the limited space at high levels, where structural steel frames posed a significant obstacle.

Since commencing operations in the UK in 1960, Crown Lift Trucks has become a global leader in the manufacture of forklift and material handling equipment. The company designs and manufactures around 85% of its forklift components and provides a wide array of services, including rentals, maintenance, and support for its extensive customer base.

The newly installed Ramdoor has not only improved temperature control and safety but has also significantly enhanced operational efficiency at Crown’s Warrington site. The design of the Ramdoor includes a pedestrian access door, which facilitates better traffic flow and creates a safer working environment for employees.

Featuring a dual height opening mechanism, the Ramdoor allows for optimal heat retention while accommodating various forklift sizes. Additionally, engineered seals and infills create a seamless finish that enhances both functionality and aesthetics.

The Ramdoor is engineered to achieve a Class 5 wind resistance rating, enabling it to withstand strong winds and remain operational even during severe weather conditions. This impressive capability is bolstered by several features, including a thick Ramhide door curtain material, which is high frequency welded for the strongest fabric joins available.

Further enhancing its durability, the Ramdoor includes heavy-duty wind-brace and wind-bar systems, along with extra-deep side-guides, all contributing to its resilience against high wind loads and pressures. Like other products in Union’s range, the Ramdoor also incorporates a ‘Crash Out’ facility, which mitigates downtime and repair costs in the event of vehicle or personnel impact with the bottom beam.

Alan Hirst, Sales Director at Union Industries, expressed his satisfaction with the project, stating, “We are delighted to have assisted Crown Lift Trucks in overcoming their operational challenges with our high-speed Ramdoor. This project highlights our ability to provide innovative solutions tailored to our customers’ specific needs.”

Mark Eccleston, Branch Manager at Crown Lift Trucks, echoed these sentiments, saying, “Union Industries’ Ramdoor has revolutionised our operational efficiency and safety standards. Their dedication to understanding our unique requirements and delivering a bespoke solution underscores their commitment to customer satisfaction. The Ramdoor not only enhances temperature control and traffic segregation but also contributes to our sustainability goals.”
