In a significant step towards achieving net-zero transport, GRIDSERVE, the UK-based EV charging company known for its Electric Forecourts® and Electric Charging Super Hubs, has introduced its first dedicated mobile app designed specifically for electric vehicle (EV) motorists. This launch marks a new chapter in the company’s mission to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across the UK.
Developed in collaboration with Microsoft Azure specialist Dootrix, the GRIDSERVE app is tailored to enhance the user experience for EV drivers. With a focus on user-centric design, the app enables drivers to easily locate EV charging points, manage payment information, access payment history, and monitor real-time charging information, including the estimated time left to charge. This new tool is expected to further boost drivers’ confidence in making the switch to electric vehicles, contributing to the UK’s green transport revolution.
The app is compatible with over 190 locations on the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway, which includes the award-winning Electric Forecourts®, Electric Super Hubs situated at motorway service areas, and Electric Retail Hubs at popular locations such as Dobbies. By offering a seamless and personalised charging experience, GRIDSERVE aims to make EV charging more accessible and convenient, thereby encouraging more motorists to go electric.
Rob Borley, CEO of Dootrix, who has been collaborating with GRIDSERVE since 2019 on various technology solutions, highlighted the app’s potential for future innovation. “This state-of-the-art technology creates the roadmap for continued advancements that can be made quickly to meet future needs and empower EV drivers even more,” Borley stated. He emphasised that the app is equipped with advanced features that set it apart from other charging apps on the market.
One of the standout features of the GRIDSERVE app is its ability to visualise the charging curve during a session. This feature allows drivers to see the variation in the speed at which their vehicle is charging, providing valuable insight into their charging experience. Borley explained, “This is made possible by a very strong technical connection to the chargers themselves; real-time data from the chargers enables the app to build charging curves of the number of kilowatts that are being delivered to the vehicle throughout the charging session.”
Rebecca Trebble, Chief Customer Experience Officer at GRIDSERVE, expressed her excitement about the app’s launch. “We are thrilled to be launching the GRIDSERVE app. 200,000 charging sessions are recorded on the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway every month, and the new app will make those charging sessions even easier. We have listened to our users and made it easier to receive receipts as we look to constantly improve our service.” Trebble also noted that with a 20% discount on charging across GRIDSERVE locations this summer, now is the perfect time for drivers to take advantage of the app and explore the network during their summer adventures.
Available for both iOS and Android devices, the app not only helps users find the best charging locations but also integrates with popular navigation tools like Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze, making it easier to plan journeys. The app’s launch represents a foundation for future developments, as GRIDSERVE, which currently operates more than 1,400 charging bays, continues to innovate and bring its vision of sustainable, net-zero transports closer to reality.
