Alibaba International Unveils AI-Powered Sourcing Engine for SMEs

Alibaba International has announced the forthcoming launch of its revolutionary AI-powered conversational sourcing engine, set to transform the sourcing landscape for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) when it debuts this September.

The new sourcing engine is designed to enhance the efficiency of B2B e-commerce by utilising cutting-edge AI technology. It will enable SMEs to navigate global sourcing with greater ease and precision, addressing the complexities and inefficiencies of traditional sourcing methods.

Advanced Technology for B2B E-Commerce

The engine leverages sophisticated AI algorithms, including natural language processing, to process and interpret vast amounts of information. It matches buyers with products and suppliers with an accuracy previously unattainable, streamlining the sourcing process. Developed using over one billion product listings and extensive industry knowledge, this tool aims to simplify the traditionally laborious task of finding suitable business partners and products.

Kuo Zhang, President of Alibaba.com, highlighted the significance of this innovation during a press briefing in Paris: “While traditional search engines focus on web page importance through links and advertising spend, our new B2B sourcing engine offers a more intuitive and natural way to query and match buyers with sellers based on their track records.”

A New Era for Global Trade

The AI-powered sourcing engine marks a departure from traditional search methods, which require users to manually sift through webpages and summarise information. This advanced solution is designed to provide a more interactive and predictive experience, handling complex queries and documents in natural language. Users will benefit from direct comparisons and custom-made insights, significantly enhancing their sourcing decisions.

The engine’s capabilities extend beyond simple search functions. By integrating various aspects of e-commerce—including products, payments, logistics, and customs—this technology aims to mimic the expertise of a professional sourcing consultant, making it easier for SMEs to compete on a global scale.

Building on AI Success

This development builds on Alibaba International’s previous success with its AI toolkit “Aidge,” introduced last November. With around 500,000 merchants using the toolkit, daily API calls have reached 50 million, significantly boosting content quality and customer engagement. Features such as virtual try-on tools and AI-driven customer service have already demonstrated their impact by increasing conversion rates and customer satisfaction.

The launch of the new sourcing engine follows Alibaba International’s continued investment in AI, with a dedicated team of 100 experts and ongoing recruitment efforts to drive future innovations.
