Chinese car manufacturer Geely Auto has officially launched its brand and the Geely EX5, a next-generation electric SUV, in Australia and New Zealand. The move marks a significant milestone in Geely’s international expansion, establishing its presence across all five continents.

The company’s entry into the Australia-New Zealand (ANZ) market underscores its global ambitions as it strengthens its distribution network and product offerings. Geely Auto Group’s CEO, Jerry Gan, described the launch as a step towards the company’s long-term strategy, stating:

“2025 marks the beginning of the Geely 2030 Vision. By the end of the year, Geely will enter the UK, Brazil, South Africa, and other markets, while expanding its global sales and service network to over 1,100 outlets.”

Rapid International Growth

Geely has steadily expanded its footprint worldwide, gaining a strong customer base of over 17 million. The company’s latest model, the EX5, has been well received in multiple markets.

Following its launch in Indonesia, the EX5 secured over 1,000 orders within a week, demonstrating strong consumer demand. It has also generated interest in the Philippines and Costa Rica. The model first gained international attention after being showcased at the Electric Vehicles Expo at Automechanika in Germany.

Thailand became the first market to receive deliveries of the EX5 in March 2025, marking a key milestone in Geely’s overseas expansion. By the end of the year, the vehicle is expected to be introduced in over 20 countries, further enhancing the company’s global presence.

Technological Innovation and Future Plans

The EX5 is Geely’s first global model built on its GEA Global Intelligent Electric Architecture, featuring the company’s latest advancements in new energy vehicle (NEV) technology. Key features include the Geely Short Blade Battery, CTB (Cell-to-Body) Structure, and an 11-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive system.

Looking ahead, Geely plans to expand its NEV lineup in international markets. Over the next three years, the company aims to introduce eight new electric models based on the GEA platform, covering various market segments and strengthening its competitive position.

A New Era for Geely

The expansion into ANZ represents a crucial step in Geely’s global strategy as it competes with established automotive brands. By focusing on distribution, innovation, and customer experience, the company aims to solidify its position as a leader in the electric vehicle sector.

With its sights set on further international growth, Geely’s next phase will involve entering key markets such as the UK, Brazil, and South Africa, reinforcing its presence in the evolving global automotive landscape.
