Uber Partners with Turo to Revolutionise Car Sharing in Key Global Markets

Uber Technologies has announced a significant multi-year partnership with Turo, the world’s largest peer-to-peer car-sharing marketplace. The deal, starting in early 2025, will integrate Turo’s extensive selection of vehicles into the Uber app, enabling users in major markets such as the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and France to rent from over 1,600 different makes and models.

The partnership represents a significant step forward in Uber’s efforts to broaden the range of services it offers through its platform. By introducing Turo’s unique and expansive selection of vehicles to the Uber Rent platform, the move is set to create fresh opportunities for users looking for more variety in vehicle rentals. The collaboration also promises to boost entrepreneurship for Turo hosts, with the car-sharing platform giving its users greater flexibility and choice when renting out their vehicles.

A Wider Selection of Vehicles for Uber Rent Users

Starting in 2025, Uber customers will be able to rent vehicles directly from Turo’s network via the Uber app. This move is expected to increase the selection of vehicles available on Uber Rent, offering users the chance to get behind the wheel of a wide range of cars, from everyday models to more luxurious and unique options.

Niraj Patel, Uber’s Global Head of Consumer Vehicles, highlighted how the partnership fits with Uber’s broader goals. “Flexible access to shared vehicles is a critical part of the future of transportation,” said Patel. “Partnerships like this with Turo are essential to providing our customers with the best possible experience, reducing private car ownership, and making better use of the vehicles already on the road.”

The partnership is expected to significantly enhance the Uber Rent offering, giving customers more choice and flexibility when it comes to vehicle rentals. It will allow Uber users to easily select the perfect car for any situation, whether for a quick errand or a weekend getaway, without having to switch between apps.

Empowering Entrepreneurs and Unlocking Value

For Turo, the partnership opens up significant growth opportunities. Andro Vrdoljak, Vice President of Business Development at Turo, expressed excitement about the deal, saying, “This partnership with Uber unlocks a massive opportunity for growth. By joining forces with Uber, Turo is well-positioned to further cement its place as the world’s largest peer-to-peer car sharing platform.”

The collaboration is particularly geared toward supporting Turo hosts, who are effectively entrepreneurs running their own car-sharing businesses on the platform. By integrating Turo into the Uber app, these hosts will have access to a broader customer base, increasing their earning potential and expanding their businesses.

Turo’s mission is to unlock the hidden value in underutilised vehicles, and this partnership is poised to do just that on an even larger scale. With around 1.5 billion cars worldwide, most of which spend the majority of their time idle, Turo aims to make better use of these assets by allowing people to share them via its platform. The integration with Uber Rent will undoubtedly accelerate this process, providing even more opportunities for car owners to generate income.

Reducing Private Car Ownership

Both Uber and Turo share a commitment to reducing private car ownership, a goal that aligns with broader environmental and economic concerns. By making shared vehicles more accessible and convenient, the partnership seeks to encourage people to rent cars only when needed, rather than owning them outright. This approach could contribute to reduced congestion and emissions in cities, while still giving people the flexibility to use a car when necessary.

The car-sharing market represents a significant economic opportunity, with a total addressable market estimated at over $150 billion. Turo’s position as a leader in this space, combined with Uber’s vast global user base, creates a powerful alliance that could reshape the future of vehicle rental.

What the Future Holds

As both companies prepare to launch this partnership in early 2025, expectations are high for how the collaboration will transform the Uber Rent platform and the broader car-sharing market. By providing Uber users with a more extensive and diverse selection of vehicles, the partnership is set to enhance the experience for millions of people around the world.

For Turo hosts, the deal represents a chance to grow their businesses on a much larger scale, and for Uber, it’s another step toward creating a more flexible, sustainable, and user-friendly transportation ecosystem.

Both companies are committed to making transportation smarter, more accessible, and better for the planet, and this new partnership could mark a significant shift in how we think about car ownership and usage in the future.
