An exciting inclusive cycling event is set to take place in York this February, aimed at people of all abilities. The ‘All Together Now’ event, organised by Get Cycling CIC, will take place at the York Railway Institute on Sunday 23 and Monday 24 February 2025. This free, two-day event is designed to provide an opportunity for individuals with disabilities and limited mobility to experience cycling, explore specialist cycles, and connect with local organisations that offer valuable resources.
The event, which forms part of Get Cycling’s Pathways to Pedals programme, has been made possible through generous funding from the Motability Foundation. The initiative continues to break down barriers and create inclusive cycling opportunities for all.
Paula Clark, Engagement Manager at Get Cycling CIC, expressed her excitement about the event. “We’re thrilled to bring this inclusive cycling event to York, showcasing the transformative power of accessible cycling,” she said. “Our goal is to ensure everyone, regardless of their abilities, can experience the freedom and joy that cycling brings.”
The event is designed to be accessible for people with disabilities and limited mobility, with Sunday focusing on family-friendly activities. Families can enjoy inclusive cycling opportunities together, while the Monday session will be geared towards local organisations, offering them a chance to explore how cycling and related programmes can help support their communities.
Visitors will be able to try out a range of specialist cycles and learn more about the Pathways to Pedals programme, which provides accessible cycling options and support. In addition, there will be information stands from local charities and support groups, offering resources for people with disabilities and those who support them.
Matt Lucas, Sports Lead at Tang Hall SMART, praised Get Cycling CIC’s work, saying, “Our cohort of students, all interested in sports or fitness, jumped on the bikes and got involved. They quickly found confidence as they were empowered to do something they might not have had the opportunity to do otherwise. We look forward to working with them again.”
Why attend? Visitors can enjoy hands-on demonstrations of specialist cycles, network with local support organisations, and learn how cycling can promote independence, health, and wellbeing.
The event is expected to provide lasting benefits to the local community, with plans for the Pathways to Pedals programme to expand across Yorkshire in March 2025. This expansion will engage with local organisations to build support networks and further promote accessible cycling.
The event is free to attend, though registration is required. Organisers encourage those interested to sign up early to secure their spot.
