Yutong Bus, a global leader in commercial vehicle manufacturing, has successfully completed a significant green mobility milestone in Australia, demonstrating the power and potential of electric vehicles in public transport. The company’s fully electric C12E bus achieved an impressive 555-kilometre journey on a single charge, promoting the ongoing shift towards sustainable public transport solutions.
The C12E, which has been in operation for two and a half years, covered a round-trip of 285 kilometres from Melbourne’s Preston suburb to Kiama with 50 percent of its battery remaining. The bus traversed a range of diverse road conditions, including city streets, highways, and mountain routes. The power consumption was measured at an efficient 0.63 kWh per kilometre, showcasing the vehicle’s reliability and range.
Kent Chang, CEO of Yutong Asia-Pacific, highlighted the challenges of electrifying public transport. “In the electrification transformation of public transport, we face several bottlenecks such as mileage limitations, battery safety, charging efficiency, operational reliability, and cost efficiency. Yutong is committed to overcoming these challenges through continuous technological advancements and product innovation. Our aspiration is ‘Think Eco, Move Green’,” Chang said.
The C12E electric bus is built on the Yutong Electric Architecture (YEA), an advanced technology platform that integrates both software and hardware, designed specifically for electric vehicles. Launched in September across the Asia-Pacific market, YEA is the first platform of its kind, offering scalability and adaptability for a variety of commercial vehicles and travel scenarios. This platform enables Yutong to provide solutions that are more economical, durable, and convenient for customers.
The YEA technology promises significant improvements over industry standards. The platform offers a 10 percent longer range and a 20 percent reduction in operating costs compared to its competitors. It also ensures high durability, with an uptime of 99 percent and a battery lifespan capable of covering up to 1.5 million kilometres, making it a reliable and sustainable option for public transport operators.
In addition to the technological achievements, Yutong Bus recently hosted Green Travel Week in Brisbane, an event aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of sustainable transport. The event, supported by the Brisbane City Council, encouraged citizens to consider electric vehicles and eco-friendly travel options. It also showcased Yutong’s commitment to extending the benefits of green transit solutions to local communities.
The Green Travel Week initiative underscored Yutong’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability. The event is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to use innovative technology to enhance public transport and reduce the carbon footprint of global cities. Yutong’s strategy of combining cutting-edge electric vehicle technology with community engagement has positioned the company as a key player in the transformation of the global transport sector.
With this latest achievement, Yutong Bus continues to set the standard for green mobility solutions, demonstrating that electric buses can provide reliable, cost-effective, and eco-friendly alternatives to traditional public transport options.
