As millions prepare to hit the road for the festive season, a new study has used artificial intelligence (AI) to determine the ultimate Christmas playlist for holiday driving. Whether you’re heading to visit family, explore Christmas markets, or simply enjoy the winter scenery, the perfect in-car soundtrack is crucial for getting into the holiday spirit.
According to research by Allen Leasing, the AI has ranked Mariah Carey’s iconic hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” as the top Christmas song for the festive season, scoring an impressive 92.3%. The song’s combination of upbeat energy and Christmas cheer makes it the ultimate driving companion during the holiday season.
Other classics also performed well in the AI ranking. Andy Williams’ “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” secured second place with a score of 91.5%, followed closely by “Feliz Navidad” by José Feliciano, which earned 91.16%. These tracks, with their catchy melodies and festive spirit, are perfect for setting the tone during a Christmas road trip.
The AI assessment, which considered themes, emotional impact, song structure, and mood, placed Dean Martin’s “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” in fourth place, followed by Wham’s “Last Christmas” at number five. Another road trip favourite, Chris Rea’s “Driving Home for Christmas”, came in sixth place, with a score of 88.91%. Despite being a beloved festive anthem, it scored 84% for its lyrical structure and flow, according to the AI analysis.
AI also revealed which songs struck the strongest emotional chords with listeners. “Feliz Navidad” topped the emotional resonance category, earning a remarkable 96%. The track’s upbeat, joyful energy proved to be a major factor in its high emotional score.
In contrast, “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms, which rounds off the top 10, scored 87%. “Stop the Cavalry” by Jona Lewie, known for its poignant anti-war message, also placed highly, earning 87.5%, with Chuck Berry’s rock and roll hit “Run Rudolph Run” following closely behind at 88.6%.
Chanel Boddington from Allen Leasing said, “Music is an integral part of the Christmas experience, providing the soundtrack to so many magical memories. With Christmas being a time for bringing people together, it’s essential to ensure a safe journey, so that you can enjoy those moments.”
To help ensure safe travels this Christmas, Boddington shared some top tips for preparing your vehicle for the winter roads. She recommended checking the tyres for proper inflation and sufficient tread, as well as testing the battery to ensure it’s not drained by the cold weather. Ensuring oil, coolant, and screen wash levels are topped up is also crucial.
An emergency kit containing essentials such as a torch, blanket, phone charger, snacks, and a first aid kit is essential, according to Boddington. She also suggested planning your journey ahead of time, checking for traffic updates, and packing fun items to keep children entertained during long drives.
With the perfect playlist and preparation, families can enjoy a smooth and festive road trip this holiday season.
